Great food abounds in Portland, as does specialty shops for all things food and drink. But we’ve long been without an spot that does everything (well, at least). No more.
The team behind Grain & Gristle have teamed up with Portland butcher Tray Satterfield to open an everything-you-can-think-of food and drink establishment. Old Salt is one part deli and market, one part supper club (and bar), one part bakery (Miss Zumstein’s Cakes & Desserts), and one part cooking school (Good Keuken). Boasting the only whole animal butcher shop in the city, both the deli and supper club staff make everything from scratch—even the bread. If that weren’t enough, Old Salt has collaborated with beverage alchemists and Chef Timothy Wastell, formerly of DOC and Firehouse, heads up the kitchen.
The supper club and bar is open from 5 p.m. to midnight, while the deli serves soup, sandwiches, specials and sides from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Don’t feel like cooking after a hard day’s work? The deli has a nightly grab-and-go dinner menu (5 to 7 p.m.) that entitles you to one protein, one bread and two sides each.
