Good Eats The Spots — 14 April 2012

With the weather beginning to warm up, we went exploring for a new hot spot to drink and dine with friends. We hit a culinary jackpot and found ourselves in food heaven in an open and inviting space with a long bar and plenty of seating.

Johanna Ware, renowned sous chef, recently opened up her new restaurant in Northeast Portland, SmallWares. Self described as “Inauthentic Asian” this restaurant hosts a social atmosphere for friends and family alike. Boasting an innovative menu with highlights such as chicken lollipops and oxbow curry, the restaurant caters to appetites both large and small. The shared plates worked perfectly for family style dining, with everyone receiving the opportunity to sample the complex and exciting cuisine. The drink menu also stands out by organizing itself by flavors; featuring a wide variety of beer, wine and sake.

This sophisticated and cozy place is open for lunch and dinner Tuesday-Sunday, and while the name indicates “small,” SmallWares delivers on a big scale.
