There’s been a trend with local distillers and restaurants recently to import particularly special booze into the family fold that you might not find elsewhere. Such is the case with Temperance Trader Straight Bourbon Whiskey from Bull Run Distilling Co. On the nose it’s mildly sweet and smoky with a hint of fruit and butterscotch. Upon first taste it’s soft, warm and slightly sweet with a distinct note of rye, finishing warm with a mild spiciness. Temperance is a “High Rye” bourbon with more than 51% Corn and less than 10% Barley and shows it’s cottage industry feel with varying proofs hovering somewhere around 86%. Just right for the kind of sipping that doesn’t leave you coughing.
