Damian Lillard capped off his brilliant rookie season with the NBA Rookie of the Year Award, and it was well deserved. For Lillard, the adjustment to NBA competition was smooth and at times appeared easy for him. Lillard credits his four-years at Weber State for his development and seasoning, but I credit his God-given skills, strong family, and calm demeanor as to why he was able to dominate in his first year with the Blazers.

From day one, Lillard handled the media like a superstar and embraced his role as the franchise point guard. Lillard knew coming in that he would be under a lot of pressure since the team used the sixth overall pick to select him, but he didn’t waver. As the season moved along, players around the league began to take notice of his remarkable talents and poise. Lebron James, Chris Paul, and Kobe Bryant all raved about Lillard. He gained respect from the stars the old-fashioned way, he earned it.

Even throughout the season, Lillard was always quick to point to LaMarcus Aldridge as the leader of the team. Lillard knew his role as a rookie and played it well.  He never stepped out of his place or said something out of character.

With Lillard, the Blazers future is bright!
