Personally, we find it challenging to bond with our father. Don’t get us wrong… it happens (often, but unexpectedly). It’s just that it is a difficult thing to “plan.” The old man has his pride and his routine, and (increasingly) so do we.
So, it is with a great sense of accomplishment that we can recommend a dual trip to HairM for a cut, head massage and straight-razor shave. We walked in last year and shared a beer and communicated through our normal guttural noises and head nods. Then we were both swifted off by lovely ladies ready to pamper us…in a totally masculine (and father-acceptable) sort of way. Alone, but together. The experience was not mentioned aloud during our post-service scotch up the street, but the feeling of relaxation and satisfaction that comes from “sharing” such an old-school tradition was ever present. And appreciated.
He’s gone back to his normal barber many times since, but believe us when we say he’s been silently looking forward to getting back to HairM for nearly an entire year. We’re glad to be his excuse.
